Hi

I am using SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition. On this friday i was doing performance tunning for one if queries where i found that Estimated Execution Plan Costs Greater Than 100%.

On http://support.microsoft.com/kb/274643/en-us#appliesto MS says that it applies to

?

Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 Standard Edition

?

Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition

Does any one knows if it's issue with SQl Server 2005 as well?

Regards;
Rakesh

Execution plans are never exact and will probably always have rounding errors which make it add up to greater than 100%.

They are only useful to find the parts of the query which have the largest cost, not for the total percentages.|||

Hi

I my case it's more than 200% :(

Regards;
Rakesh

Quick SQL Server version question

Can I run SQL Server 7.0 Desktop and SQL Server 2000
Personal Edition on the same NT 4.0 Client machine ? SQL
Server 7.0 Desktop Edition is already installed.
Thanks.Jennifer,
Yes.While installing SQL2000, select the option to install a named
instance. Thus SQL7 becomes the default instance and SQL2000, the named
instance. After the SQL2000 setup, all gui tools would be of the latest
version.

server from SQL Server 2000 computer and modify/save DTS
packages, It will not work on the SQL Server 7.0 server
anymore. I keep forgetting that fact and modifying DTS
packages on SQL Server 7.0 servers. I want to avoid that.
How could this work on a client computer with both
versions installed ?
Thanks....

quick question!

Can RS Developer Edition be installed on machines which do not have Visual
Studios installed?
--The server part yes, the report writer no. The development tool for RS
requires some version of VS. Any version. I believe you can get vb.net for

A. SQL Server Personal Edition is not a separate product, but instead a
component of SQL Server that is designed to bring SQL Server functionality t
o
desktop applications. It can be installed and used on any Microsoft
Windows–based device within an organization provided it is properly licens

If SQL Server Personal Edition interfaces with an instance of SQL Server,
and then distributes that data to other devices, SQL Server Personal Edition
is acting as a mutliplexer and SQL Server device CALs are required for all
devices accessing it. If you have licensed SQL Server according to the Per
Processor licensing model, you can have an unlimited number of connections t
o
that server, whether it is through SQL Server Personal Edition or through
direct connections.

For those interested I have an answer from Microsoft regarding licenses for
Personal Edition. See below...
I understand your confusion over the statement quoted, but you are correct
in your assumption on the licensing requirements of SQL Personal Edition.
SQL PE is a component of the main SQL server itself, and the licensing is
dependent how you licence the server. If you decide to licence SQL with
CALs, for each CAL purchased you are entitled to install one copy of SQL PE.
If you go the processor route, as this allows for an unlimited number of
connections, you can install SQL PE on an unlimited number of PCs as well.
easy when you know how...

Quick Licensing Question

Hello,
If I have a SQL Server set for Per Processor Licensing can I install
Personal Edition on a number of Laptops/ PC's without purchasing a license
for them? We have laptop users that travel and use a local copy of a
database. I want to move to Per Processor licensing for our main server but
an unsure if these users will fall under the per processor licensing model or
will still require a license to use Personal edition. From what I understand
they fall under per processor but I want to make sure.
Thanks for your time.
The short answer is no, sorry.

Q. What type of license do I need to install and run SQL Server Personal
Edition?
A. SQL Server Personal Edition is not a separate product, but instead a
component of SQL Server that is designed to bring SQL Server functionality to
desktop applications. It can be installed and used on any Microsoft
Windows–based device within an organization provided it is properly licensed
with a CAL or connects to servers that are properly licensed according to the
Per Processor licensing model.
Processor licensing model, you can have an unlimited number of connections to
that server, whether it is through SQL Server Personal Edition or through
direct connections.

Quick launch 2005 on PC

Poor me :o

I have to share a home PC now so cannot have things my own way. When using my own PC I had SQL Server 2005 dev edition run on start up. Now I am sharing it seems rather churlish to not have it start on demand.
With 2000 you got a little icon in the taskbar that indicated the status of SQL Server and a quick right click -> start was all you needed to get the little fella up and running. With 2005 you need to go all the way to configuration manager and start it.

I have four options:
#1 - a few mouse clicks to start SQL Server via configuration manager (unacceptable - imagine all the wasted time and RSI!)
#2 - bat file to start SQL Server (ok)
#3 - more sophisticated little app that shows the status of SQL Server in the taskbar and allows me to start it (nice but a pain to put together)
#4 - something much spiffier which one of you gurus can let me in on

I am sat on the edge of my little seat in anticipation :)Why don't you look at the powershell option in this case, using it is similar to .bat file.
